Discipleship & Mentoring for Addiction Recovery
As a Christian organization, we are founded on Biblical principles and believe firmly in the transformative power of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We recognize that those who have committed their life to serving Jesus Christ are new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17) and no longer slaves to sin (Romans 6:6). God has given His children the necessary tools to live a life that is both holy and pleasing:
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness though our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 2 Peter 1:3
Our ministry welcomes individuals who are in recovery from addiction. Our approach is to train them and build them up spiritually as we focus on Biblical teachings and principles. Our mission is to educate Christians through mentoring and discipleship, and train Christ's children how to live a life pleasing to God free of addiction, and to equip the saints for every good work. We do not offer psychological counseling, therapy, or treatment but focus on God's enduring truth revealed in Scripture.
We also firmly believe that human beings are made in the image of God and are therefore rational, thinking, moral beings. Human beings are not animals controlled by impulse, genetics, or their environment. Rather, we have the inherent ability to exercise discipline and self-control in our lives by living according to the Spirit.
Although the main reason for our ministry is so people in recovery from addictions can know the Lord in salvation, and to live a life pleasing to Him, there is a secondary reason as well.
The purpose of mentoring and discipleship is to teach the individual truth so that they will be able to teach others the truth. This is why the concept of discipleship is so important. It is our mission as ministers of the gospel of Jesus Christ that He must be presented to the individual who is in recovery in terms of “relationship”. Jesus desires a relationship with each of us as individuals. Every person needs God’s presence in his or her life; not just presence, but ruling presence.
The place we give God in our life will determine the place everything else has in our life. Having the correct view of God in our addiction recovery ministry will ensure that everything we do is administered from a purely Biblical point of view.
Discernment and wisdom come from the Word of God as it is applied to the life of the Believer through the enlightenment and teaching of the Holy Spirit. When we begin with God and His Word, we receive what He can accomplish in the lives of people in need.
God knows everything about a person and exactly what is needed for them to be what they should be in every area of their life. Proverbs 19:20-21 says,
Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter days. There are many plans in a man’s heart, nevertheless the Lord’s counsel—that will stand.
The Biblical method that we apply through mentoring and discipleship is to teach the person who is in recovery how to have a daily, meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ. The message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is applied to the heart of the individual in salvation and forgiveness of sin. We strive to do things God’s way to receive what God can do in the life of the individual in recovery.
